Raymond M. "Skip" Cheseldine

Raymond Minshall “Skip” Cheseldine died on June 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born October 28, 1928 in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC the son of Raymond and Estelle (Smith) Cheseldine. He is survived by his loving wife, Adrienne; two sons, a daughter and step daughter. Cary Cheseldine of Rockville, Virginia, Raymond “Kip” Cheseldine of New Zealand, Susan Kim (Phil) Bryde of Vistas, California and Kathy Hanson of Park Ridge, Illinois, and daughter in law, Linda Cheseldine of Europe. He was proud of his many grandchildren, Sarah, Nicholas and Matthew Cheseldine, Raymond “Wyatt” Cheseldine, Samantha (Marc Mihranian) Bryde, Jonathan Bryde and Connor and Don Hanson. Ray was a graduate of Georgetown Preparatory School and Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a member of Theta Beta Pi Fraternity. In the 1950’s Ray enlisted in the Army where he attended OCS training and then volunteered for the elite Army Ranger school where he graduated in 1953. Like his father before him the military was an important part of his life. He was involved in erecting a new armory for the California National Army Reserves. Ray joined California Bank in their graduate training program in 1955. He was hired by the American Bankers Association where he worked in the Marketing/PR department and headed their Centennial celebration in 1963. In 1963, Ray joined the Financial Public Relations Association (BMA) and moved to Chicago Ray was the Executive Vice President of the Bank Marketing Association from 1963-1987. He turned the Association into a family, a funny quirky one. He had a great positive influence on all who worked for him and on so many who worked in the banking industry. BMA molded so many great memories for us. He met many United States presidents during his life starting with President Roosevelt, President Nixon, President Kennedy and President Reagan. Many, many stories to tell. An avid catch and release fly fisherman, he traveled the world with a fly rod and, of course, shared all of these adventures with his friends. Adrienne wants to thank Ray for being the strong ethical man that she fell in love with many years ago. We will have a memorial service for him in the near future. We ask that you contribute to a charity of your choice or in his name to Joanne’s House/Hope Hospice; 27200 Imperial Pkwy., Bonita Springs, FL 34135; who took exceptional care of him in the last days of his life and then to raise a glass in the celebration of his life. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home.
