Regina "Jean" E. Herron

Regina "Jean" Eleanor Herron passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 7, 1946, Jean was one of twelve children born to Joseph and Eleanor (nee Meade) Moffatt. She grew up in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she attended St. Thérèse of Lisieux School, affectionately known throughout the community as "Little Flower." She later graduated from Ravenhill Academy. Growing up in a large Catholic family helped shape the woman she would become. Jean was always unapologetically herself—fiery, fierce, and filled with a quick humor that made its way into every conversation. Her faith, compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family were hallmarks of her life from an early age. After graduating, Jean worked briefly at Brown Brothers in Philadelphia before beginning the chapter of life that brought her the greatest joy. In 1968, she married the love of her life, William Edward Herron, son of Patrick and Alice Herron. Together they shared nearly five decades of marriage and built a home filled with faith, warmth, and unconditional love while raising their five children. Bill preceded Jean in death in 2015, but the beautiful foundation they built continues through generations of the family they created together. Jean loved deeply and unconditionally and nothing was more important to her than the incredible family she and Bill built. Jean embraced motherhood with boundless love, selflessness, and an infectious sense of fun. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising Jennifer, Timothy, Liam, Jessica, and Rebecca, creating a home where everyone felt welcomed, supported, and deeply loved. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader, famously telling them to "grip it and rip it" whenever they hit the golf course. As her family grew, so did her joy. She treasured her role as "Granmommer" to her 10 grandchildren, taking immense pride in each of their lives and accomplishments. Jean was a pioneer and moved with Bill from Bethesda, Maryland to Estero, Florida in 2001 where she surrounded herself with new best friends and thoroughly enjoyed her Wildcat Run Community including golf, bingo, bocce and “whine” hour with her ladies. She loved the Our Lady of Light Catholic Community and served as an Eucharistic Minister for many years. In recent years, every Sunday in her home started with church and ended with dominoes. Jean is survived by her five children and their families: Jennifer Herron and her husband, Richard Sherman; Timothy Herron and his wife, Margaret, and their children, Jack, Kate, and Matt; Liam Herron and his wife, Dorene, and their children, Maddie, Laura, and Nolan; Jessica Banias and her husband, Will Banias, and their children, Nicholas and Abigail; and Rebecca Carey and her husband, Wilson Carey, and their children, Ryan and Nora. She is also survived by beloved brothers and sisters and their spouses with whom she shares an unbreakable bond: Christina Feeny and her husband Rick, Karen Mullen and her husband Bruce, Thomas Moffatt and his wife Barbara, Stephanie Urzua and her husband Gus, Peter Moffatt and his wife Kim, Amy McEntee and her husband Rick and sister-in-law MaryLynne Moffatt, wife of deceased brother Michael. She cherished their legendary sisters' weekends, dancing with them to “We are Family” and the 54 years of the Moffatt annual summer reunions at Ocean Isle Beach (OIB). She leaves behind a legacy that will also be carried on by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Jean will be remembered for her sharp sense of humor, kind heart, unwavering faith, and the unconditional love she shared so freely with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the values she instilled in each generation. ________________________________________ Service Details Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Jean Herron on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with a Catholic Funeral Mass starting at 11:30am at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community (19680 Cypress View Dr, Estero, FL 33928). Following the Mass, the burial of her ashes will take place in the Memorial Garden just outside of the church.
