Ricky Robert Wood

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricky Robert Wood, a vibrant and youthful 63-year-old, on August 20, 2024. Ricky was born on January 2, 1961, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His life journey took him through San Bernardino, California, the Northwest Suburbs of Illinois, including Mundelein, and finally to Naples, Florida, where he resided until his passing. Ricky attended Norwood High School and proudly decided to focus on career goals instead of college. Ricky’s career in sales was marked by his leadership and success. He began in car sales and later transitioned to selling advertising, consistently achieving top company goals. He thrived on the adrenaline of selling and the satisfaction of making deals. In 1991, Ricky married Nancy Wood, and together they shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with one son, Richard “Ricky” Wood. In his early years, he was also blessed with and fathered two children, Monica and Marcia Wood, with his long-time girlfriend of 13 years, Connie Davis. Connie’s children, Mark and Melinda Davis, also looked up to Ricky as a father figure. Ricky’s legacy includes eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ricky was the beloved son of Bill and Carol Simpson. He is also survived by his siblings Bob Wood, Debbie Pope, and Billy Carter, as well as his stepsiblings Derek Simpson, Maureen Simpson-Henson, and Mark Simpson. Family was at the heart of Ricky’s life. He cherished activities such as board games, yard games, poker, and watching sports with his loved ones. He was passionate about the outdoors, enjoying kayaking, the beach, and boating. Ricky also loved cooking and eating, though he was known for making a big mess and not liking to clean it up. In his later years, Ricky found great joy in spending time with his beloved dog, Nala. They shared countless hours playing fetch and swimming in the pool together. Ricky was baptized as a Christian in Libertyville, Illinois, and he held a deep faith in his savior, Jesus Christ. From his earliest days, Ricky had a playful spirit. He often teased his siblings, a trait that carried over to his own children and nieces and nephews. His playful banter, often met with “NO RICK!” and “Stop,” was his unique way of showing love and affection. A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held in Naples, Florida, on November 23rd at his sister’s clubhouse.
