Terry Lee Herwig

Terry Lee Herwig was born August 11, 1938 to Doratha and Carl Herwig in Lima, Ohio. He was raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio and graduated from Blume High School in 1956. He attended the University of Cincinnati and Ohio Northern University, where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1962 and was a member of Kappa Psi fraternity. On August 11, 1963 he married his life-long love Janie Kogge. He is the father of Heather (Ron) Buchanan and Alexander (Jennifer) Herwig. He has 5 grandchildren; Nicholas Buchanan, Haley (Luke) Risner, Nolan Buchanan, Jordyn Herwig and Conrad Herwig. Terry was the owner and operator of Herwig Drug Store and Bi-Rite Pharmacy. He was the co-owner of the Fox Hole Gift Shoppe and the Foxy Lady. He was an Antioch Shriner and a member or Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Masonic Temple, Elks, Eagles and Wapakoneta, Shawnee and Bonita Bay Country Clubs. His many interests and hobbies included tennis, golf, softball and of course music. He played softball for many years and sponsored the Herwig Drug and Fox Hole teams. In addition he played tennis almost daily. He represented Ohio at the National Senior Olympics for two years in tennis. He played trumpet in the marching band in high school, at the University of Cincinnati and at Ohio Northern. He played the drums in a band in college, and after his retirement to Bonita Springs, Florida in 1996, he was a drummer for the Bay Swingers, Special Edition and Terry’s Trio. He was also an avid follower of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals and the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Terry lived life in a way that we all can learn from and appreciate. He worked hard and played hard. Everything he did was to the fullest. He did things his way and always followed his famous rule number one. He loved a good practical joke and was famous rule number one. He loved a good practical joke and was famous for his one-liners, or “Terryisms”, delivered with an incredible twinkle in his eyes. He acquired an abundance of amazing friends who loved to be around him and learned to expect the unexpected. He leaves a void that cannot be filled in our hearts. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Ohio Northern University. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
