Vito Joseph Verni

Vito Joseph Verni, 90, of Estero, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Vito was born on March 14, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Dominic and Vincenza (née Patane) Verni. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career with Doubleday Publishing Company before returning to school to earn his associate’s degree. In 1962, Vito joined the New York City Police Department, where he faithfully served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Detective. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he and his family relocated to Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, where he established and operated his own security company until 2002. From 2003 through 2017, Vito and his family owned and operated Trio's Restaurant in Lake Ariel, creating lasting friendships with countless customers and members of the community. After his final retirement, Vito and Janet made their home in Estero, Florida. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and was an avid golfer as well as a member of the Country Creek Golf League. He was also a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Light Catholic Community. Above all else, Vito was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and love for his family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet M. Verni of Estero, Florida; his daughter, Vicki A. Sciarrino (Anthony); his four grandchildren, Stephanie Schaefer, Nicolette Craig, Samantha Lehutsky, and Anthony Sciarrino; his seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Antoinette DeCeglie of Ridge, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Stephen Verni and a daughter, Susan Sinclair. A Memorial Mass celebrating Vito's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33967.
